This study aims to explore product innovation and challenges in the development of sharia pension funds in Indonesia in relation to the application of halal principles and contemporary financial needs. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative approach that focuses on three Sharia Financial Institution Pension Funds (DPLK), namely DPLK Bank Muamalat, DPLK Mandiri Inhealth, and DPLK BRI Life. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews, analysis of documents from relevant institutions, reports issued by the Financial Services Authority, and fatwas from the National Sharia Council-Indonesian Ulema Council. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and thematic conclusion drawing. The findings show that innovation in Sharia pension funds is still adaptive in nature, the digitization process has not achieved maximum results, and Sharia financial literacy in the community is relatively low. In addition, limitations in halal investment instruments and technical regulations are major obstacles in developing Sharia pension funds. This study emphasizes the importance of cooperation between regulators, pension fund managers, and the public to build a sustainable Islamic pension fund ecosystem that is in line with maqashid al-shariah.
